As you study, we provide you an accurate prediction of your band score range on your Dashboard. The more questions you answer, the more accurate it will be. You can be confident of your progress and know when you are ready to take the exam.
We compare your performance on IELTS questions with data from other Magoosh students. We look at their actual scores on the IELTS and their performance on the same questions you've answered. With this information, we can predict a band score range for the actual test.
No, it is not the same. The score predictor on your dashboard is based on all the questions you've answered. On a mock test, your estimated score is based on the questions in the mock test. The way we calculate the estimate is the same, but the questions we look at are different.
Having an accurate estimate of your band score gives you confidence. It tells you where you are at and how much further you need to go to achieve your target score. Without the score predictor, it would be much harder to see progress. We want students to stay motivated and showing improvement is a great way to do just that.
